Hi, i am currently being treated prescribed lexapro, been on it for 2 months but feel well now and think i can be withoutut it now. I am in the process of leaving it and should be off in one month.I am looking for a job and some jobs have policies about medication. I need to know if my clinic will disclose any information about my medical history and mild depression to ANYBODY who calls and asks, including MILITARY, because i am thinking about maybe joining the navy.
So, is there any privacy poilicies, i dont feel like they should disclose my medical info to just anybody. If the navy calls to ask, will they tell them? if they do, im screwed.
does anybody have experience with this? work at a hospital or clinic or know what policies on disclosing medical info to third parties are?
Any help will be very appreciated. Thank You in Advance.

No they cannot disclose any information with out your consent. Check out HIPPA.

However if you give consent then they can check out anything. The navy won't talk to you unless you give consent. Once you go to MEPS you will give consent to the military doctors to get a full medical and psychiatric history or they will not let you enlist. |

Companies cannot get that information, military however is something different. When you join the service, you are treated by their doctors, so they have your medical records one way or another. Treated for depression is not considered a problem, if everyone that was treated for depression was not allowed in the service, we wouldn't have much of a service. Relax and be open about it and up front, not "anal" just open about it. Treat it as it is, a medical problem you sought medical help for. |

If you think they can't disclose your medical information without your consent your wrong. They can under certain cases like the Department of Homeland Security. The military will make you sign a paper stating they can ask your doctor about your medical state. |
