There is a difference between the legal system, which is not bad, and the laws Parliament passes, which are often laughable.
The answer is a tough Prime Minister like Mrs Thatcher to get rid of all the correctness and punish criminals instead of *understanding* them. |

If someone breaks into your house you should be allowed to give them a right doing.
Or if someone assaults you you should be allowed to assault them back, an eye for an eye and all that.
Some people don't care about the law and don't see prison and a criminal record as punishment.
People who think our law enforcement is adequate obviously have never been victims of crime, I have on several occasions and justice has never been done, and I regret reporting to the police, I should have just sent round "The boys". |

Some say the IRA had the right idea,look after your own area,however you do it,stop crime ,stop vandalism,and re.educate those with limited social vision.The only problem with change ,is that you may replace what you have with something that is even worse. |

No. That is mob rule, and if you had an ounce of sense or any knowledge of history you would realise what a horrific thing that is. The rule of law, for all it's faults, is a most precious thing. |

You know, it really depends. I have a friend who's from a really bad part of town. There's so much violence, drugs, and problems that the law can't always control it. They try, but part of living in this bad neighborhood is the gangs. And as bad as gangs are, this is an area where you'll get beat up for walking on the wrong side of the street, where random shoot-outs aren't uncommon, murder is part of the nightly news, cops can't do anything because it's too dangerous, and people have no reservations about using any means necessary to assert themselves. Taking the law into your own hands is part of how people survive down there. You pick a gang, those people watch your back.
Is it horrible? Yes. But if the government can't protect you, then sometimes you have to break the rules to protect yourself.
Now if these crap laws you're talking about are about unfair speeding tickets or something equally stupid, then do what you want, but accept the consequences. |

I believe many people do take the law into their own hands. Police informers for instance know they have a degree of immunity from prosecution. Policemen know they will be very unlikely to be locked up with common criminals. However one has to know how the system works. Taking the law into one's own hands is a recipe for disaster if you don't know how the system works. There are very good reasons why people are upset with our legal system - ordinary people no longer feel they have any real access to justice, a fair hearing, and with the introduction of PACE and the abolition of Habeas Corpus and Magna Carta and the introduction of 'Anti-terrorism' laws - one can't rely on a jury trial, or even a fair trial any longer. Those accused under these Acts are often not even allowed to know precisely what they are being accused of perpetrating. That isn't justice - that is a sham and would not have been tolerated by Englishmen half a century ago. Good thing our education system no longer teaches children about the real history of this country and what hard fought rights have been wrested from them. In ignorance we are being led into slavery to a totalitarian state which promotes laws which are at odds with justice, freedom and liberty. |

I know how you feel about the law!Yes!I will agree a few questionable verdicts have been delivered!
But people taking the law into their own hands is definitely not the answer!
When Law and Order breaks down!Only chaos rules!Every man and woman each out for themselves!Sooner or later lynch law and lynch mobs replace what is left!Then innocent people get caught up in the struggle for survival! |

great idea, but comes with a can of worms unfortunately.
y'see if you look at how trigger happy cops are, and they're watched very closely and have a lot to lose. can you imagine an angry footballer with a few stella's in him when he thinks he can get away with bludgeoning someone cos they're loitering all dodgy outside the local?
BUT people should interfere more, and should show these wannabe gang bangers that they aren't invincible from time to time. Cos at the moment they are. We dont touch them, and nor does the law |

The Police and Courts find no crime more heinous than taking the law into ones own hand. This threatens to reduce police overtime, clear the backlog of cases in criminal courts and reduce the income of private prisons. Law enforcement, like the NHS ensures job security for its employees by promoting inefficiency and ineffectiveness.
Action by individuals frustrated by the service they receive will be subjected to the most diligent prosecution as this threatens the very ethos of what is in many cases a most inappropriately named public service.
