Withholding mail question?

Totally illegal to withhold addressed mail, or to open it. There is an additional charge of theft of an ID document that could also be applied. Let her know you will take the matter to the police if she doesn't hand it over right away.

Incidentally, this answer is in response to a question about CANADIAN law, unlike all those above who thought answering about US law was appropriate.

take something of value of hers (eye for an eye) and trade
or......she seems petty and controlling -jealousy or general personality issues dealing with feeling invaded by having to share time space and any additional things try and see it from her side -offer to assist in duties you do not have to kiss her butt but with all added up the stress could pour out animosity misdirected at you or with a greater passion than she may be aware of. Both of you should approach each other respecting the others bounderies and negotiate a better living situation together take the high ground let her know u know there is an additional burden (not that u r a burden - just more people means more stress even with thoses we are closest to ) Back off give her time to think before you "open up"

Yeah, and she also can't read it. If she has opened it, you should call the police. You can tell her that you will call the police and have them force it from her. If she still doesn't give it back to you, call the police, and just tell them how she's acting. Tell them that you would prefer to not press charges, but would still like them to come out to try to help her understand that you're a grown adult. They will come and have a talk with her. She won't be pulling that crap again.

i dont know anything about canadian laws, but in the US it's a federal offense to take someone else's mail. you can contact a lawyer and he can send her a letter stating what will happen if she doesn't give it back. i don't know if the police could do anything. maybe if you called them and told them they might come by and make her give it to you.

In the United States it is a Federal Offense to open anyones mail. Call local law enforcement and ask what are your options.

Her interfering with your mail is a felony. Technically speaking, you'd be within your rights to shoot her, in some states.

Well I don't know about BC but in the states that would be a federal offense. I think your dad's gf is very immature and I would tell her you will call the police

That is a federal crime, I'm pretty sure. So you could "threaten" her with that if you wanted. Next time, try to get to your mail before she does and prevent another situation like that.
