Would I be violating any federal, state or local laws if I did the following?

The tax appraiser for my county has aerial maps attached to their website, where one can view their property as it's seen from the air. I believe they update these photos every few years, likely reviewing them to note if any new structures have been built on properties, thereby assisting them in identifying which properties need to be taxed more.

I have a large yard and I was thinking of planting bushes in a configuration that would spell obscene words that would be viewable from the air, but not the ground. Would this get me in trouble if it made it into the next set of aerial photographs?

Not at all, it's your property, If anything did come of it, you could blame it on mere coincidence. The worst that could possibly happen is they block your property out of the aerial views.

I think this falls under the category of "FREE SPEECH"! After all, it won't be on TV and I don't know of any law against this. Before I read the question, I was going to say, "Everything that is fun is against the law or taxed".

You better believe it. Your standing in the community would be negatively affected too. Why would you want to do such a negative awful thing to your neighbors, if you want to spell something out, do it with a positive message that lifts peoples spirits.

I would think you wouldn't as there are some horrendous material on the web. On the other hand there may be a particular local law protecting your community from people who may fly over. This would depend on the community you are living. Even Google has aerial views from its website so you do need your local assayers to do this. The government also uses sophisticated aerial imaging. Who knows what falls under the Homeland Bureau. They kind of make things up as they go along to fit an occasion. Now if you were to get the attention of a local news crew who has a helicopter that. should get you some notoriety.

What a fantastic idea,I would pay to see the face of the tax man as he see,s your hard work ,I don't think that you would be breaking any law,s by doing so,could you take a photo from an upstairs,s window for us to see your handy work?
