Would Sharia law in the UK be such a bad thing?
Find answers to your legal question.

Would Sharia law in the UK be such a bad thing?

Drinking alcohol is banned, so it might help us deal with yob culture.
Thieves get more than a rap over the knuckles. They might think twice before touching other peoples property.
Bring it on, I say.
Additional Details
When I posted this question I had in mind recent press reports of cases where decent men were kicked to death by drunken yobs simply for defending their homes and property.
I know Sharia isn't the answer but we do need to see a change in the way our society is run.
The politicans who make our laws don't seem to live in the same world as the rest of us. If they had to move to some thug-infested estate for a few months they might see things differently.

I don't think what your saying is the way to go, but it would be nice for harsher punishment of criminals in this country and for the alcohol age to be lifted with harsher punishment for those who under-age drink and for those who supply the alcohol to those under-age drinkers...THAT would, in itself, help deal with the 'yob' culture...Also, if the idiot parents of the 'yobs' would pay attention to where their children are and what their doing and have suitable punishment for them when they do wrong, THAT would help with 'yob' culture. If more people went to church or at least followed a similar life to that of a good Christian (being kind, helpful to others, etc), THAT would help with 'yob' culture and perhaps then there wouldn't be so many criminals...

Unfortunately, there is no magic wand to wave to make it all disappear...people need to be more responsible for their own actions and take care of their local community and the people in it! Get more cops patrolling the streets! Put up more CCTV (even though it feels like an invasion of privacy sometimes) so that criminals who are breaking into homes or vehicles can be spotted and the evidence can be held against them. Stop gun traffickers dead in their tracks...if the general public can't hold arms to defend themselves from those who use them solely for criminal acts, then those criminals should be locked up and have the key thrown away!

I could go on...

Yes it would be a problem because we are English, its only a small amount of people that drink cause problems.............................thi...

Having lived and worked in a number of arab countries, I suggest that you choose one that practices Sharia law and go live there for a while with your wife/girlfriend.
When you come back (if you come back) you can then let us know how great it was for you !!

johny0802
Since Sharia law is a bad thing for those forced to obey the Sharia then it would be a bad thing no matter where you may want Sharia applied. Western democracies, while imperfect, are a long way past the atrocities committed in the name of Allah for the last 1400 years.
If Sharia is so great, then why are you living in a democracy where the rule of universal law prevails?

It's one of the oldest countries in the world and we don't need foreign religious input. We've survived quite well for a very long time. You don't have to ban things to deal with problems. It only makes the banned things look more appealing.

But you also get stoning of adulterers, chopping off of hands, etc., basically, many violations of humans rights. Sharia law is incompatible with the UN Declaration of human rights.

Anyway, why should we have it? We have perfectly good laws based on western values. If they don't like them, there's always Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, UAE, Dubai, Yemen - need one go on?

They have Sharia laws in Pakistan, but look at the mess. Under Sharia law, if someone kicked your head in because you were insulting the teddy bear, he and his mates would go free. How do you like that then? You might as well use petrol to fight a fire.

how can you even ask such a ridiculous question?

Definately a bad thing.

There is one nation and one law for all. Just because some people (we call them criminals) choose not to respect it does not mean that we should introduce another version for special groups.
Also, the concept of state mutilation (cutting off of hands, hanging, drawing & quartering etc) disappeared from our culture about 300 years ago. Apart from general revulsion, it never prevented crime.

History contains many examples of separate laws for different ethnic groups within one country. Without exeption it has led to civil unrest (that's a euphamism for riots, civil war and even genocide).

Apart from that, Sharia law doesn't work. Just look at the way that so-called "devout followers" behave. It's not just in England that muslims commit crimes, some of them extremely violent.

The only solution is prevention by conditioning children in the home. If that doesn't work then the criminal should have a punishment which directly relates to the crime.
For example, a thief should have to make full restitution to the victim AND be forced to pay for the full cost of their capture and trial.
If that means that they spend some years in a forced labour camp doing some work that earns the money then so be it.

that the day they bring it in i will kill the first person that tries to make me wear a burkha, veil and recite from the Quran. Beheading and stoning for women who supposedly commit adultery, are you deranged.

Do you really think that we in the UK would adopt this law?
I think not, were two very very different cultures and do not need to be a one commodity.

The mere thought that such a question has been asked is reckless....and is only asked by someone that has no real life experience or knowledge of what is really happening in this world of ours.

I would rather have anarchy in the UK than bend my knee to that manky mob's crap laws, and anyone who thinks otherwise should £uck off back to under the rock they crawled out from under.

.
Marvellous! I am sure the oppression of women would go down well too....

On the other hand, it is easy to see why the West is seen as having gone soft and to be a 'civilisation' in decline, given the decadence, debauchery and corruption we seem to revel in...

With regard to your question you say Drinking alcohol is banned please read this under Sharia law?
Muslim Kashmir consuming more liquor than Hindu Jammu

NEW DELHI: As many as 45 million bottles of liquor and beer have been consumed in Jammu and Kashmir in the past two years despite militants enforcing a ban on alcoholic drinks.

Around 64 percent of the state’s licensed shops are registered in the name of females and 82 of 155 license-holders are also women.

Licences: The National Conference, the J&K’s main opposition, which is seeking a blanket ban on the sale of liquor in the state, has slammed the government for giving women licences to sell liquor.

Srinagar has a few watering holes, that too in the high-security zone, and yet they recorded sales of 799,000 liquor bottles and 574,000 bottles of beer in less than 20 months since April 2006. The state government’s statistics presented in the assembly in Jammu on Thursday showed an upward trend in liquor consumption in the Muslim-majority Kashmir valley, while the Hindu-majority Jammu division witnessed a substantial decline.

Liquor sales in the Kashmir division shot up from 385,000 bottles in 2006 to 414,000 bottles in 2007, while the Jammu division recorded a decline from 19.1 million to 13.3 million bottles during the same period. Beer sales in the Kashmir division swelled from 165,000 bottles in 2006 to 409,000 bottles in 2007.

Sorry I do believe you may be wrong about alcohol, and you are so wrong about Sharia law

Food for thought, but, this is a Christian Country; or, am I mistaken? I suspect and predict that there will be lynchings on the streets, since the Police are no longer 'allowed' to police. There is, definitely in place, an 'air of anarchy.' Peace, order and safety are no longer the 'order of the day.' Certain Latin American Countries have adopted some rather 'drastic' methods. Such 'methods' may very well find 'their way' being 'practised' on the streets of cities, towns and villages of the The United States of America, as well as America's Fellow Christian Sister Country; The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
