Would a prison employ someone, who has a family member that has spent time in there?

There is no way that they can refuse to employ someone who has a relative who has been in prison.

Part of the application process necessarily involves an enhanced CRB check which, quite apart from convictions, cautions, warnings and reprimands, can include certain intelligence information.

Not saying that they wouldn't look into it if the CRB check flags up that sort of information (which it would if the relative was, say, a career criminal with links to organised crime who had regular contact with you) but this would not be a valid reason for refusing to employ you.

Having said that, if you were the prison authority and you didn't want to employ someone for a reason like this, then you'd simply find another reason wouldn't you?

So the answer to whether they "would" employ someone is this : if they find out you are likely to be in contact with organised villains through a family member based on information that might or might not appear in a en enhanced CRB check then they might try to find a reason not to employ you.

Why don't you just find out what's on your enhanced CRB check and if nothing troubling comes up, don't tell the prison authority. I can't see how they would find out otherwise.

As long as they have no previous convictions and the relative is no longer there, shouldn't be a problem.

Proberbly not - however the fact that you do not have a criminal record would not prevent you from employment at another establishment. Declare the fact on your application and at the interview and you should be fine

It depends on a few conditions i'd imagine.
Is it a close family member,i.e. brother/father/uncle etc etc? If it is,then i think a conflict of interest might be cited as a reason for not employing them. Loyalty would be called into question.
Also,has the family member been in and out of the nick? Again,if they are then chances are slim for employment.
Lastly,if the applicant has been convicted of certain offences then it will show up on an CRB/Enhanced Disclosure check and will be reason enough to reject the applicant.The offences that will be a red flag are anything to do with violence,offences against children,drugs and dishonesty.
