Any promise made under threat isn't binding.
If he threatens you he is extorting you. HE IS COMMITING A CRIME BY DOING SO.
There is no moral issue.
However, there is the potential safety issue. That is, if you go against him, can he retaliate? |
|

Of course. There is no excuse for molesting a child. |
|

You're asking if the person is obligated. The answer is yes. Cops, teachers, day care workers, all are required by law to report any suspicion they have that a child is being abused. They do not have to have proof or even be certain it is happening, only a suspicion. It is the responsibility of CPS to determine whether the suspicion is valid. I'm not sure if regular citizens are also obligated under the law, but they absolutely have a moral responsibility to do it. |

Of course you turn him in. From what you wrote you may also have a murder running around loose. |

YES, that kid has a LOT more living to do. If I am going to be in the guys face about it, I am NOT going to stand by and let him get away with it EVER again! |

Yes. Giving your word is just to stay alive. Turning him in is to serve justice and to protect future people from being molested or possibely killed. It takes courage, but it is the right thing to do. |

Yes
When children are in danger, there are no questions about it. |
|

Burley
 |
With out a doubt ABSOLUTELY !!! Press charges for the assualt on you and send him where he belongs. Would you want someone to turn their back and let you continue to be abused if they could help you? |

Turn him in. It's the officer's duty to do so, no matter what. They guy may not have took pity, but just didn't want murder charges to haunt him. The cops would look for this guy pretty hard core for the murder of a cop. So yes, he has to. He could save some other poor child from being assaulted from this pervert. |

If YOU are the cop that is your job to protect the innocent. If you don't want to tell yourself; tell someone and have them report it to child services for you. Stand up for that child though, you may be the only person who can save that child. |

Yes without a doubt, My getting beat up doesnt change her being molested so my word would have to come in second.
Either way your morals would be challanged If you told you would be going against your word. If you dont a innocent would be left without justice.
The little girl wins out over my own dignity evertime.
Oh by the way he would have to shoot me no way he would just walk away. |
|

Perfectwings

I would |

|
Absolutely.
Pedophiles who act on their proclivities are always repeat offenders. You are responsible for his future actions if you don't turn him in. His act of "pity" doesn't mitigate his crime(s). |

Kathy F
 |
yes, because its the right thing to do. so ur going to let the dude run lose and prey on other children?
often under-cover cops must lie in order to catch criminals. |

i would turn him in... its just a sick thought |

If you are a cop, you are obligated by law to report it. It's your duty to act....to protect & serve......You should know this. You can do it anonymously, if you are afraid. Even if you weren't a cop, How can you sleep at night knowing this poor child is suffering like this? What if it were YOUR daughter, or niece, or sister???? You'd be pretty upset if no one spoke up for them....be a voice for her...no one else will. Please. Please, for her sake...put this innocent child before yourself, and save her from anymore abuse. Don't forget, you can be held accountable by law, for NOT reporting it... |

Yes. No matter what promise you made to him. Can you live with the knowledge that he is out there raping children when you could have stopped him? I would tell every lie I could to keep a child from that. |
|

EC Expert

Of course. Promises made under coercion have no value. |

I think a cop is legally obligated to arrest the molester regardless of what bs they tell the molester. |
|

GG
|
yes. because he didnt save your life out of kindess he saved your life so you would become his nect victim. molesters violate chldren for power and now he has power over you. you are his victim now. if he molests children how much mercy do you really think he has?ot much. turn him in. while you're scared he's out there hurting more children. i know you cant sleep at night, so turn him in so you can get some rest. im sure he's getting a kick out of knowing he has you scared. kinning you would nothing positive for him; he loves you as his new victim. |

Turn him in.
Think of how that 12 year old feels .. and would feel, if another adult knew about it .. and continued to let it happen to him.
There are places for someone like this. |
|

Grant M
|
your darn right I would... How did I as a cop let him get the drop on me? |
|

Chris B
 |
There's no question...I'd turn him in as quickly as my fingers could dial 911.
If this is yourself you're talking about, how can you justify NOT turning him in? What if this were your 12 year old girl he was molesting when you caught him? I'd bet he wouldn't be alive to tell the tale! Besides that, you call yourself a cop? A police officer's duty is to protect and serve. But I don't think you are a COP! I think you're a store security guard who had nothing to defend himself with. No child molester with a half of a brain would let an armed officer live to tell this story!
Turn him in before your conscience eats you alive! Have you no concern for innocent children...or is it only yourself you're interested in? |
|

notyou311
 |
Of course I would turn him in. Don't you know that child molesters have a compulsion to molest as many children as possible? Would you want such a person to be out there around children you care about? You don't have to keep your word to a criminal who hurts kids.
Your question is just ridiculous. |
|

alienmiss

yes, and if he were beating a person, then the police officer has every right to shoot him. |
