No. I'm not into drinking or even smoking, but I don't think that crackdowns are a solution. Also, more and more of our rights are being taken away from us. Pretty soon, we might as well be living under Nazi rule. |

underage drinking isn't right. but I am 19, married, pay my own bills, and I work my *** of nearly 70 hours a week to provide for my wife and our home. If I can do all that I should be able to drink if I want. I think If you can't drink until your 21 then you shouldn't be able to fight for your country in the military or get married until your 21.
key point though... It's not about how old you should be or who's selling it, it's about how responsible you are about it. |

No i dont support that, I would support this though, insted of every 3rd dui being a felony, the 2nd should be. The first time having a dui....ok we'll let you go with a night in jail and about 5 grand in fines, the 2nd there is no excuse for. |

They tried it back in the 30's in the USA, and it only made things worse and was finally done away with. Let's face it! People are going to Drink! and its easy to make! So what can you do other than let em do it! To bad so Sad. |

That would be a human rights abuse. If I decided that wanted to binge drink then that is my business. It would also be counterproductive because to dictate to people is to address the symptoms.
If people binge drink to extreme and cause themselves and other people problems then there is clearly something wrong with them. It is these causes that need to be addressed and not the symptoms. |

It all sounds a bit draconian to me. How about making parents responsible for teaching their kids how to use alcohol responsibly (which would of course assume the parents understood that at all).
We were given a tiny mouthful of champagne at any major family celebration (including birthdays and christmas) and were permitted small glasses of alcohol whenever our parents drank in the evenings. However neither our parents, nor my sister and I have ever drunk to excess, because we learned that there is a time and place for everything. In most circles that I mix in I am considered a bit of a wowser because I prefer not to drink during the day. However when I do drink it enjoy it, and even enjoy getting a bit light-headed.
I think that any punitive approaches would be counterproductive (after all, look what happened during the prohibition) however a supportive community-based campaign that enabled people to take responsibility for their actions and those of their children, would probably get a better result. Unfortunately in Britain the punitive approach seems to be deeply ingrained, which means that funds that might permit a more positive approach are scarce (they are all being funnelled into building new prisons, paying the courts and parole officers .. |

im 15 and drink sometimes.
why should i have to wait for ages to start the best years of my life, im sure you drank before you were 21 so why be hipocritical on the younger generation, were not all out of control you just only hear about the 2% that are.
Live you boring life and let us live ours. |
