No, as a non-smoker, I think the persecution has gone far enough. Where will people go next? B.O problems, drinkers? enough is enough, let's retain some freedoms. |
|

Whilst I think people should be free to ignore the dangers to their own body, they have no right to inflict damage on others! |

NO- thats going too far
though i do support the ban in indoor public places |

Not that extreme, but these days you have to go in a pub for fresh air. |

What would be the point? |

Yes I agree with you. This is always happening to me. Also when you try to walk in to a shop the smokers are all outside and you get a face full. |
|

|
No I would not. Personal freedom, The outside is large enough that a person can smoke with out effecting someone else. |

No. I think the "secondhand smoke" issue is overblown, a smokescreen (excuse the pun) for people to just use their power to tell others what to do.
Some said "what next? fast food?" and they were right. New York's proposed trans-fats ban has no "secondhand harm" justification.
PS Some people wear offensive perfume also - and others smell because they have not worn any type of deodorant at all! "Ugly people" may offend they eye, also. I think this is one of the risks that one takes when venturing out in public.
Then again, we do have noise restrictions, don't we? |

I only support non smoking in restruants/family centered places but everywhere would eb too much, it woudl jsut lead to more people breaking the law, its their bodies they should have some limitations to where they smoke but not compoletly controlled |

No. Then cigarettes should be outlawed. It is ridiculous to have cigarettes legal but to ban smoking. |
|

you do not exist

NO! |

no that would cause too much unnecessary drama. people would get ticketed and arrest and blah blah like 'this is the 3rd time i saw u on the street smokin a cigarette ur under arrest' wtf? whats the point? if you are that anal about smoking seclude your own self! |
|

cmdrbnd007
|
No, I'm not a smoker and never have been but if we are going to say it's legal to smoke than I believe you should let them smoke. I'm glad most restaurants have gone smoke-free, I hated eating a nice meal and it tasting like stale smoke but in an open air situation where the concentration of smoke is going to be so much less than let the smokers slowly kill themselves. |

 |
No No No , it is going too far already , I agree that smoking is bad but we should start attacking the big big profits of the makers not the people who have become hooked on the damned things |
|

Chuck
|
No, I dont think that is a fair ban. Although I am not and have no intentions of becoming a smoker, you can't restrict a group of peoples rights just to please another group - basically, it's infair. Outdoors is very large, unlike a restaraunt or bar.
So many people smoke, it's not right to stop them from doing something to please others when they are already being stopped from smoking in public places. |
|

Kirk Spock
|
YES... because even though you are 'outside'... your "exhale" blows into the faces of MANY people who neither want nor desire your stinky (and unhealthy) smoke.
Don't expect to ever see a full ban... the Government makes too much money from taxes. |

i think that smoking should be banned in all public places including the streets. stopping smoking in pubs and things is ok but you still come home stinking of smoke that you have picked up as you walk out the door |
|

As a former smoker I do not support smoking bans. It is the right of the establishment to allow it or not. If a non-smoker is extremely passionate about being in a non-smoking establishment, then they should just avoid the places that do allow smoking. Enough is enough. |
|

alphacenturi

Yes i would.
First of all i agree that even with the smoking ban as it is now we all still breathe in smoke from others, it is impossible not too.
I have absolutely nothing against people who smoke, if they want to kill themselves while paying for the privelidge then that's fine, i only have a problem when it effects me, when it makes my clothes smell and i have to breathe it in.
I don't for a second imagine that smokers will be happy to walk around with a goldfish bowl on their heads so a total ban is the only option.
I don't belive there's any smoker of any age who would want their children to smoke, it looks/smells terrible, swallows all your money and slowly kills you.
If this and the next generation have to suffer a little so this addiction, this plague, this absolute stupidity could be stopped once and for all then maybe we should consider it. |

I would.
1) I've seen two of my grandparents both die of smoking related illnesses. One went very quickly from a stomach hemorrhage (having survived a brain hemorrhage seven years earlier) the other died through being unable to breath due to Emphysema and lung cancer.
2) I'm asthmatic, and cigarette smoke is the only thing that triggers my asthma attacks. I've been walking down a street, and a group of people were smoking. The wind carried a cloud of smoke into my face, and I had an asthma attack.
3) it would make it much harder for young children to take up smoking as they'd have no where to do it. |

Yeah, smoking in the streets encourages young people that smoking is cool, which increases risks of lung cancer in young people. Also, what is the point of tobacco at all? It doesnt make you look cool, you smell, have bad teeth and will die early. the only reason people carry on smoking is because they were pressured to and now they're addicted. I dont see the attraction really. |

No, smokers have rights as well as you |

Yes - along with beer - I hate the smell of stale beery breath! Also, those with BO should be publically bathed. Those wearing cheap perfume and body spray should also be banned.
All are an unpleasant part of living in a town or city. If we banned everything that we personally found offensive, the cities would be a ghost town. Smelling a puff of smoke is not going to kill you. The exhaust from the traffic is more likely to be dangerous. Get over it! |

|
Would it work!?
They haven't been able to ban drugs, guns and drink driving and smoking would be a worse waste of resources if they have been available. |
|

Mr Abba
 |
So why dont they ban selling tobacco. Am not for that because if people want to smoke allow them thats their own choice. |
|

notuglylikebetty
|
No. The arguement against smoking in working places were sound but there is no justification for banning it on streets.
There is a danger of ending up with a nanny state if steps like this are taken. |
|

Rev. Dr. Al Poe
|
The ban should be for people born after Dec. 31, 1999. Born after that you cannot buy cigarrettes so that evenutually there will be no cigarettes.
I don't have problem with people smoking outside. I do have a problem with legislating laws that cannot be enforced.
I don't smoke. |
