Would you support the legalization of ferrets as pets in California?

YES! I don't have one, but have been thinking about it. I live in the Bay Area and I've heard I can buy one in Reno pretty easily and bring it back with me. I heard they were illegalized after a few incidents involving ferrets killing babies. Pets shouldn't be regulated because of potential harm. Otherwise, we should illegalize the ownership of dogs. It's up to the owner to keep the ferrets in check.

Seriously if all pet ferrets in the state of CA had to be neutered & microchipped BEFORE sale, I say let the masses buy all the ferrets they like. A written agreement to spay/neuter the animal at a later date is no good. Ask any animal rescue organization. People simply ignore these "written agreements".

Any feral ferret could be traced back to it's owner by the microchip. The owner could be fined or the animal confiscated depending on the situation.

A breeding feral group of ferrets would be very bad for the small wildlife of CA.

For what it's worth - it takes more than 3 generations to domesticate an animal. If that were true, all the tigers in the USA would be domesticated according to your claim.

No. In the US 5.000.000 pets are already put to sleep every year because people are selfish and dumb, get a puppy/kitten then change their mind and have it killed. The less pets available, the less animals will suffer and die.

Sure why not. I wasn't aware that they were not legal in California. In Virginia they sell them in pet stores and we can get them pretty much anywhere.

i didnt even know ferrets were illegal anywhere as pets. thats weird.. why would they make that a law. ferrets dont do anything. as long as you know it doesn;t have rabies its safe i would think.so yes i would support that.

i wouldn't. bringing them here would effect the balance of nature if they escape and start reproducing in the wild. you know they will! they can escape through such tiny places. i heard they can fit through a hole the size of a nickel. they would probably cause a similar animal here in California to become extinct somehow because thats what happens when a new species is introduced into a different environment. they are not native to this area as far as I know.

Yes their legal in many other states and we rarely hear on the news of ferret problems. That's a rediculous law in Calif anyway when peopel like Paris Hilton has a monkey and a bobcat among other strange pets.

No, I wouldn't support it because I believe animals should live free. I also don't think they'd live as happily in captivity as they would in the wild. All animals deserve to live freely in their natural habitat and left alone there.
