I've read the bill. Here's what it says: if police run into you during their work and have a reasonable suspicion you might be here illegally, they can detain you until it is proven that you are not breaking the law. (That is not a copy of the federal law nor is it similar to the California statute, FYI). The result is that an entire population will not help us prevent crime anymore. It seems obvious to most.

Now police chiefs across the country are saying the same thing. So why is there still support for it.
One last aside: Arizona is not in a crime wave, they are in a crime draught and crime has been falling with the more illegal immigrants that enter the state. So says the FBI Uniform Crime Report. Additional Details Wondering who people with no brain agree with....think her name rhymes with Smarah Smalin.

It's the same political shell game the conservatives have been using for a hundred years. When you can't blame anyone else for the problems created by the Republicans, blame the illegals. Reagan and bush the lessor pulled the same nonsense. |

>>>if police run into you during their work and have a reasonable suspicion you might be here illegally, they can detain you until it is proven that you are not breaking the law. <<<
Police just can't "run into you" there must be a legal reason to stop you. A cop standing behind you in line for coffee can't question you about your immigration status just because your standing next to him...There is no legal reason for him to question you.
The article says some Police Chiefs talked to Eric Holder. How many is some? The photo shows two...
So lets consider that illegal aliens stop reporting crime and crime does go up. Would that not result in an increase in police presence while they investigate these crimes and provide more opportunity to question subject matching a description ("Lawful Contact"). Seems to me that this would actually give the police more opportunity for Lawful stops to question suspects and actually increase the opportunity to find illegals....
So to spin it the other way, it is still in the interest of illegals hiding within a community to report crime (drop a dime , anonymous tips etc) and to not commit crime in an effort to avoid situations which provide "Lawful Contact" opportunities by the police. Keeping crime low keeps the investigating police away and minimizes the opportunity the police will have for "Lawful Contact".
This chart shows a decrease in Arizona crime along with a similar decrease in overall US crime.

Why is that both of these cities have crime ABOVE the US average?
Why does crime increase the closer you get to the border? |

Tell that to the rancher who has his place taken over by drug runners, and
his family kidnapped to run drugs over the boarder as the ransom.
You are an idiot, and don't understand the problems of our open boarder. |
