Yes, it should. I wish I knew when, somen has to have the balls to get rid of it. If it has to be a woman to do it then that is okay too. |

Yes, it should be rescinded and those who passed it should be tried for treason. |

YES! |

It should never have been passed in the first place. Abolish it NOW! |

Yes, what disturbs me the most is that the majority of the people who passed the aforementioned wretched piece of legislation didn't even have the decency to read it.
And for Rick K, you have lost the right to due process. Which is the most important right we can have. Without the right to due process you have no fair and balanced means of defending your other rights. The patriot act, allows the entire judicial system to be circumvented, rendering it entirely useless. |

YES,
To the guy that wants to know what rights we have lost try the right against illegal search and seizure for one.
I have the right to not have anyone spy on me without probable cause. This peice of legislation opened the door for the government to spy on its own people. They barely used it to find terrorists. Over time people have found more evidence that the government was spying on its own citizens more that diligently searching for terrorists. |

Yes it should be but the goverment and the people who work for the state and goverment will never let it be abolished because it lets them spy on anyone that they want and it lets them do whatever they want without any worry about peoples rights or if they are right or wrong it gives them complete control over you and everyone that you know. |

Definitely. I'm tired of the government infringing upon the rights of Americans as a whole. Someone previously asked to name ONE right that we have been taken away from us. Well the people whos right has been taken away from them can't be here on the internet to write about it. They are being locked up in prisons without cause, they don't have the right to a trial, they are being tortured without cause. Just because some people don't see those happening to them or their family doesn't mean that its not happening to honest citizens of this country.
Check out the link i have below.
" In the six-month report of December 16th to June 15th there were 1,076 reported claims of civil liberty or civil rights complaints related to the US Patriot Act. Thirty-four were deemed credible according to the Inspector General's office and would be examined.
Some of the abuses included, abusive language, cruel and unusual behavior, and abusive treatment. One detainee had a loaded gun held to his head while being transported, another was forced to remove his shirt and ordered to shine his guard's shoes. Sleep deprivation, torture, and beatings were also reported. " |

Yes, we did just fine under our original bill of rights and Constitution. This other hocus pocus was drafted simply as a way to scare us into letting the Bush Administration do as they please with our Money. Remember, code Red? Still laughing over that. |

Well, I say yes too;
Now look at all these answers and ask yourself whether we are truly living in a DEMOCRACY! |

As a Republican who believes in less gov't control, yes it should. |

It should have been named The Facist Enabling Act !
When Asscroft, Gonzalez, and Shrub say that they can grab a US citizen in the US, with no warrant or charge, deny them all contact with lawyers or courts, and take them out of the country, it is time to change that miserable excuse for a law.
H. Beam Piper wrote a book, Lone Star Planet, which is very well worth reading.....
Wake up people ! Himmler would have thought he had gone to heaven if he were given such powers.
Even if you think Shrub in an honorable man [and if so, I have some property (note I do not say "land") in Florida to sell you], there is absolutely NO guarantee that in future we will have only moral and ethical people in power.
Does nobody remember just how far over the line J. Edgar Hoover went ? Do people think we will NEVER again have such swine in a position of power ?
Had Hoover had the Putrid Act with which to work, MLK2 would surely have been hauled off somewhere and disposed of quietly, or simply kept incommunicado until he died. Does anyone think that would have been a good idea ?
What would Nixon have done with it ? Would Sam Irvin have gone off for a nice long Gitmo vacation ?
How about Richard J. Daley [the Elder] ? Think Chicago '68. Huey Long ?
What is REALLY scary about the Putrid Act is that they had it ready to go when 9/11 happened; this is not a law put together in a hurry.
Someone wrote it and had it in the file waiting for some excuse to enact it. That should scare the Hell out of us all. Someone was looking forward to gutting the Constitution. Someone in government.
Canada is too cold for me, but Australia is pretty nice. I love my country, but divorce does happen.
Next, let's talk about RICO.... |

Yes, it should be abolished. Additional rights have not yet been taken away, but that law certainly provides for that very action. |

Sometime after the first Tuesday in November of this year you can start planning on it :) |

i don't like the dept of homeland security. i would like to see that part of the patriot act, (if it was a part of it), re done.
you never approach a problem by building bigger more intrusive government. the dept of homeland security is going to create more problems than it solves. |

The Patriot Act can only be abolished if it is proven that it is unconstitutional and against public order. |

YES in big red letters. The ACLU is slowly picking away at it to re-coup what was taken, there are several legal actions in the works right now. Anyone that contends that we haven't lost any rights has there head as far up their butt as GWB. |

I don't think they should even let the Patriot's play anymore. It's just not fair! But Congress should not be the one's deciding that. |

NO, Welfare and medicaid should be abolished. Jesus Christ it is 2008 and how long ago was welfare created?
Was it Hoover, Truman, or Roosevelt?
Work or die you poor, uneducated, @#$%'s!!! |

Rick K

No, it should not be abolished.
And we have not lost any of our rights!
Name me one right which you have lost?
Just one?
If you can.
EDIT: smedrik said that we have "have lost the right to due process."
There is actually a hint of truth to that, as derived from the Padilla case.
But that was corrected, albeit too slowly, by the courts. There was one similar case, I believe, but both have been corrected, and it has not happened again.
So that right, while, briefly endangered, has been restored in full. |
