I am creating a website and in one of the banners I want to use popular characters like Mario- is that illegal?

Nobody has copyright on the name mario, all you need to do is change a few things. The original mario is only a few pixels of 8 bit code from donkey kong which was originally supposed to be called monkey kong but they had to change the name as not to infringe on copyright with king kong. Capcom changed M bison to balrog in street fighter 2 as not to infringe on mike tyson, what was the biggest selling game on the 16 bit nintendo in 92? It might be illegal but i don't think nintendo would care if you used their official mascot as a tribute on a personal webpage. They aren't Disney, who by the way would destroy you for a simple infringement |
