we have opossums that keep coming into our house... we have removed 7 of them ourselves but there is still more... i'm pretty sure they live under the house and we cant get under there... we have told are landlord several times that we need somebody to come get them but he keeps telling us to call the animal control... and in our area they dont deal with opossums..... its a small town, we would have to pay somebody to come get them and we really dont have the money... is this a good reason to with hold rent?

if you get into a court battle over a landlord, if you have failed to pay rent, you are at serious risk of being liable and losing.
my understanding with expenses is that you should pay them, get a receipt, and send the landlord a copy to reimburse you. you can sue at that point, but if you had failed to pay for the services you agreed to (place to live) then you'd be on the wrong side of the law. |

Only if you have an "opossum clause" in your lease that says you don't have to pay if you have them. Otherwise, you MUST pay your rent, or you'll be evicted. |

The withholding of rent is only allowed in certain states and under specific reasons. Without knowing state we cannot reply |

Have you tried the direct approach, telling him that animal control won't help? That might be a starting place. |

if you withhold rent he can evict you. get a .22 and take care of the problem yourself. |
