Do Atheists have right to "religious practice" under the E.E.O.C interpretation of Title VII?
If a person wants a day off from work because they say it is their "Religious Practice" or their "Religious Belief" doesn't it have to be "theirs" and not just "what they say" in order for you to accommodate them?
How do you test if it's a sincerely held religious belief? Aren't all people wanting days off for Friday worship etc really just "Atheist until proved otherwise?"
I remember in Basic training in the Army many Atheists went to church to sleep on Sundays with the Christians while the rest of us Atheists stripped and waxed floors while being occasionally yelled at by Drill Instructors. Were those Atheists who went to church not eligible for "religious practice" since there is nothing to "practice" in Atheism?
Also, I as an Atheist, choose to celebrate Chanukkah because I think it's a cooler holiday than Christmas. My Hanukkah 3 years ago I wore a Yarmulke to work and was told to take it off. Did I have a right protected under the EEOC to wear it or must I "prove" it's my religion, my religious practice, or my religious belief?

How can a Atheist have a religion? Atheist is a philosophy as in Atheist-ism, not a religion.
Philosophy is the study of general problems concerning boslo matters such as existence, knowledge, truth, beauty, law, justice, validity, mind, and language. |

It is very simple. If you refuse to hire someone (or fire someone) for any reason that is not directly related to the requirements for performing that job, then that is discrimination. The problem is that there are probably just as many cases of false discrimination claims that are impossible to defend against as real discrimination that can't be proven. Discrimination is not a good thing, but the EEOC probably does as much harm as good.
As far as religion goes, atheism is a religious philosophy just as valid as any other.
With regard to special "religious" holidays, employees can use paid vacation days to take off any days they desire.
The Yamulkah shouldn't be prohibited unless there is a genuine business reason (like a safety hazard?) why it can't be worn. |

* Your rant begs the question, "Can there be a religion without a god?" After all, "atheism" means exactly that - no god. Yet you claim it's a religion.
In actuality, you're perfectly correct. There are numerous religions where there is no god. Christianity, for example. Or Judaism. These are defionately religions, and, since there is no god, your assumptions are spot on. |

I believe Atheists are much the smarter, as we have no guilty need to believe in a fairy tale.
To answer your question, though: as an Atheist, there should be no religious holidays celebrated by the giving of time off work. All should be given these days off, or none should. |
