I know the General assembly voted as a majority recommending the UNSCOP recommendations. And that Israel Unilaterally declared independence, annexing 70% of palestinan owned land to form israel.
But was there any legal basis for this. Could the UN Securit Council have given someone elses land to someone else

The same legal basis that they had for colonialism. Interesting question though, it was the first time in modern history that a Religious document was used within a court of law as proof of something...so sad.
David, I think I would be ok with not being as technically advanced is it meant that Israel would not exist. Is human suffering ok as long as it produces advances in technology? You must have a very low value for human life and dignity. |

International law essentially allows any group to claim independence on the basis of sovereign rights. Provided you can hold your land, you have a right to form your own country. The previous owners have the right to defend it.
