I'm 14 years old and i just started high school this past year, and i want to start working. not like babysitting, or lawn mowing .. to feel more responsible and sophisticated and have a little more responsiblity, i'm not going to take jobs from the internet because i'm not stupid. but does anybody have an ideas?
resurants, out they're 18 and over
mall. 16+ [well at any store i would want to work out, employee discounts]
and i cannot work with fast food, it's sick and totally not cool

nobody in NJ bags groceries .. they bag their own ..

I think you can work in a library, any job that is safe for you but you have to get a working permit for that from your high school. |

As posted by the first poster you first need to obtain your workers permit. You can get the form from your school guidance counselor. Have your parents sign and return to him/her. One thing and not to burst your bubble. I remember when my cousin and I were 14 (I am in NY and she was in NJ until recently) and we couldn't find a job if our life depended on it. Very few employer's want to take on the liability of hiring a 14 year old and 15 year old (although you have a better chance at 15 getting a job at a fast food or small clothing store.) |

I got my first job when I was 14 yrs old and I worked at a hotel. I worked only on Sundays and I worked the brunch line. I was responsible for changing out the food trays, cleaning up and eventually I was making the omelette's. There really isn't a lot of things you have to choose from at your age. Try a movie theater too. They might hire you for ripping tickets. The problem is that not a lot of employers are willing to hire someone so young that handles money. Just go into places and fill out applications. I'm sure someone will hire you if you interview well. There is a real shortage of applicants that have any sort of personality and charm. And the permit is easy.... You'll have to get a physical from your doctor and he/she will have to sign it. Then it has to be signed by the superintendent of your school and handed in to your employer. |

My sister worked in a lawyers office at 14. She is now a lawyer herself. My friend worked at a dentist office at 14. She is not a dentist but very successful. Both only worked saturdays. |
