6 month Probationary Period?
Find answers to your legal question.

6 month Probationary Period?

Hi Guys,

I have a 6-month Probationary Period employment with 40 hours per week and paid annual holiday entitlement. During this period my employer can terminate my employment with a 7-day notice period.
I have to quit the company.

1. What notice period do I have to give them ??
2. One week is enough ?

Thank you for answers

If you are in the UK, your notice period is whatever your written terms and conditions state. If they are silent on the matter, the statutory terms apply, which is 1 week for under 12 months service.

It will say in your contract that if your employer gives 1 week's notice to quit while you are on probation, then YOU give 1 week's notice of quitting while on probabtion.

Once the probabtion period is over YOU are LEGALLY required to give a MINIMUM of 4 weeks notice of your intention to quit/leave.

Hi it should follow that you give them a week too, check your contract to be sure. ;0)

One week is fine while you are still in your probationary period. But if you're still unsure, check your contract :)

A 2 week notice is standard in the US. Employers can give any type of notice (one week, no week, etc.), but many employers prefer a 2 week notice even when you're in your probationary period.

If it isn't any trouble for you (i.e. you don't have to rush to do something that precludes you from giving more than one week notice), give the employer a two week notice. That way, you can use this employer as a good reference (see if he/she will give you a good letter).
