You will need to go to law school for three years and to get into law school, you normally need an undergraduate degree. That means you'll be in school for seven years. Go to the best schools you can and get the best grades you can. There is a lot of competition all the way through, then it gets worse when you're in the work force.
As for wages, hours, and whether you'd be a good fit with the profession, I suggest you try to get some part time or summer work at a law firm doing really basic stuff like photocopying and distributing the mail. It will give you a chance to talk with people and see what you think, plus it starts you making contacts in case you want to go for it. |

i found Stephen's answer very enlightening. I have went through so many attorneys with my divorce and got completely RIPPED off by them. They did NOT do what they promised to deliver for me, and THEN my last attorney who was representing me in my divorce, went to the other side, then demanded his money. Thats right...he went to my EX's SIDE!!!! worked for that sleazeball attorney and my EX!! I thought that was against the LAW??
So i hate the law and the loopholes and the courtsystem in the USA. Seems to be for the crooks these days. The more wrong you do, the more loopholes the Attorney can find to help the bad guy win over the GOOD guy. :( |

I would encourage 90 percent of those who want to go to law school not to go. It's really the 10 percent club that gets the interships, clerkships, law review and big firm jobs. |
