Contingent fee lawyers are excellent at dividing by 3 --- they usually get 1/3rd.

As a lawyer I only use simple math for say settling lawsuits ($3600 paid over 24 months).

If you are doing legal work that involves accounting. If you are involved in securities fraud litigation or tax law I believe you will be using more math. Also Buying or selling a business or commercial real estate. Additionally, divorce law. I can't give you exact examples because I don't do this time of work.

I am going into Patent Law, which is a lot of science and I presume I will need to understand higher forms or math for that, the kind you learn in College LOL.

Math comes in handy in calcuating damages, etc... Also, it is a good asset to have math/accounting skills if you go into business law.

Math really comes into the legal profession when you start looking at how much you are going to shell out for tuition, books, etc. Then math comes in when you don't get a job or a low paying job and you realize you have to move back home because you cannot afford to live on your own. Math comes in when you count the countinually growing number of law schools graduating huge numbers of lawyers. We need more lawyers like we need herpes. Go into healtchare, doctor, pharmacist, physician assistant, all paid more than a lawyer, where you are actually are wanted, in demand, and you will be compensated for you investment of time and money.

Here is an ad for an attorney in Massachusetts that was posted this week. Imagine you have undergraduate debt, law school debt, and then try living on $37,500.00 a year.

Office of the District Attorney for the Bristol County District seeks staff attorney for the Appellate Division. Excellent writing skills and a passion for appellate advocacy are a must. Salary $37,500. Preference given to candidates who live in or will relocate to Bristol County.

You learn math and economics.

I graduated Law School and didn't have to take more than one math class my entire college career. In fact, I picked Legal work because I am terrible at math, but excel in analytical thinking. Something that boosts your understanding and analysis is a good grasp on Statistics. For example, being able to read statistical charts and having an understanding of the lingo, etc.

well, if you're going to be a government lawyer or a patent lawyer, you would need to understand statistics to support your cases...
In criminal law, you have to know enough math (such as trigonometry, calc) to understand the physics of a crime. For example, if a victim got shot at a certain angle, you should be able to understand what that indicates for your client.

I'm sure there are more, good luck!

good luck
