Hi - this came into force under the new age discimination laws as of Nov 2007. For any literature regarding this contact www.acas.gov.uk

And yes employers are not allowed to have date of birth on application form and neither years attending education establishments

I am an ex shop steward and have not heard anything about this and think it would come under discrimination if it was.

No it's not illegal to ask for a date of birth. It is an offence to put in advert suit 16 year old. Or suitable for over 50's type thing.

It is not unlawful/illegal to ask for someone's date of birth, any more than it is to ask for someone's gender or whether they have a disability.

That is not written anywhere. Employers can ask for your DOB however it is normally up to you give this info. The information is needed for their records nothing to do with recruitment procedures.
Saying that, if you think you are being discriminated against then you need to raise this issue with your boss which of course they would deny it, if at all the allegations are right. You need to get all facts right.

In wrtting yes ...try" equal opportunities" ..but it is all in writting only because I for one is a victim of age discremination...do not give birthdays, nationality, bank account,Insurance number in your C.V....you let them know when you get the job.Good luck

I work at the CAB and Ive not heard anything either. In fact you need a persons age to make sure you are complying with anti age discrimination - to make sure you are employing young and old alike, and to ensure you apply the right minimum wage which varies with age.

A recruitment consultant told me that a resume/CV can't show the date of birth. Check you legislation websites from Google.
