Am I meant to get an appraisal at work?
Find answers to your legal question.

Am I meant to get an appraisal at work?

When i started at work, i was told i was going to get an appraisal after working with the company for four weeks and also after 13 weeks.

I've been working with the store for almost a year and i've not had my four week appraisal! I've also heard that i'm legally supposed to get one every year.

I do not know of a legal requirement to conduct an appraisal but they are a good idea. You need to know how your work is viewed, how you are progressing, what you are doing well and what you could be doing even better. Your employer might like to take the opportunity to discuss your career aspirations.

It obviously matters to you which is a good sign - It shows you care about the job and how well you do it. Could you, perhaps, have a chat with your immediate boss and mention that you would welcome a formal appraisal for all the reasons I've mentioned and any more you can think of. You can't make them give you one but it would be sensible and good practice for them to do so. If they don't do it or don't do it well, what does that tell you about your employer? See, it works both ways.

Good luck.

An employer has no legal obligation to conduct appraisals anually or otherwise Consequently an employee has no legal entitlement to an appraisal I've always felt they are good things for both The fact that your company does not have follow its own rules on this suggests to me that if & when they eventually get around to it it will not be done very well.

Agree with Tom about no legal obligation for employer to conduct an appraisal - however in the absence of any 1:1's or feedback you are entitled to assume that everything is fine. Don't make too much noise about it unless your colleagues have had one and you haven't or unless you are concerned that you might be overlooked for promotion or get unfair salary increases etc..........nothing to stop you from keeping a note of all those extra things you do, ask for feedback from your colleagues via email about your performance and improvement needs etc.......... be prepared co u must take some of the responsibility for this not happening etc....

good luck ok

You don't need an appraisal to get a raise and an appraisal doesn't necessarily guarantee a raise. As far as the performance feedback from an appraisal, what good is that if no money is involved?

If you go to work and nobody asks: "What are you doing here?"; then you don't need a worthless appraisal. Good Luck.

It is good idea for managers to make an appraisal for the employee, but are these managers sometimes sincere andhonest when they make appraiasl for an employee in an Organisation and not done in right way what then does it reflect on employee or appraisee's?
