An employee at my job is under investigation for theft due to the amount of merchandise lost in inventory

.. it came back so bad up to $60,000 lost due to theft in ten months. A manager told me recently that sense that number was so high it must be do to internal theft as well, and bad inventory. They are investigating everyone that works there to see if they have given others discounts that don't make sense. this one employee is worried, but the thing is that the only proof they company has on them is a name on the receipt. He has never been caught before or has no prior criminal record. He committed the offenses ( discounting merchandise) when he was 17 and just turned 18 august the 1st. What you think will happen to this employee, or what can he do?

I doubt this large loss is due to this one employee. Why would the manger tell anyone about an investigation...discounting is not the problem that got the tab up to 60K. This large of a loss is more than likely merchandise not ever making it to the floor...I suspect from the truck to a trunk..I would say it is more than one person.
Loss prevention personnel should be kept confidential to all except the manager on duty..they should only know if they see something call this number and verbally direct them to the suspect..This way the store can get the suspect on camera. etc. Security employees in uniform and plain clothes should be on the floor. |

Sorry to tell you this buddy, but it doesn't matter when he did it. Theft is theft and now they are investigating the situation. What will happen? Depends on the organization. They can merely fire him or actually file criminal charges against him. |
