Anyone here a Paralegal?

I was just wondering if its better to attend class or take it online? What are the rewards, what have you been rewarded with? Do you take trips for meetings? Do you sit in the office and do research all day? Anything exciting? Im just curious

The opportunities for a paralegal really depends on the specialty. The most in demand paralegals are those in the litigation field; followed by corporate paralegals who are responsible for maintaining corporate records, articles of incorporation, etc. While the "least" marketable [but the "highest" paid] paralegals are in the field of intellectual property [i.e., patents, trademarks] and immigration law. In conclusion, choose your paralegal courses accordingly, with emphasis on litigation preparation [discovery], docketing/calendaring of incoming pleadings [calendaring] and trial preparation [creating Exhibit tabs, Bajii jury instructions, etc.]. The "pro" side of a litigation paralegal is often "unlimited" overtime which can amount to a high salary range of $65,000 to $75,000 per year, while the "downside," being constantly pressured to meet a monthly client billable quota. And failing to meet that quota, often results in the paralegal's overnight dismissal. It's not a pretty picture. I just want to lay out what really happens in the real world of litigators and their relationship with subordinate paralegals.
Good luck! |

Hubby is one, but for the military. He takes trips all the time for work, but civilian paralegals may not do that because there are more of them available to do the work. I would suggest you attend class because you'll get MUCH more clarity and hands on experience with the paperwork and computer programs. Bad paralegals don't make any money cuz they can't keep jobs, and your rep really does follow you, so take the classes so that you can have the aforementioned benefits, PLUS the benefit of having professionals (the instructors) get to know you personally. |

There are many different fields you can study.I have a friend who is a paralegal specializing in immigration..she works at Microsoft. Other fields might be finance or environmental law. Do what you're interested in and you'll enjoy it more.
If you go to a class in person..often times you can get an internship if the profs like you. |
