Are UK employers obliged to give an inflation related pay rise?

RAY
No they aren't unless it says so in your contract of employment (which I doubt).
However since if they don't you are effectively doing the same work for less money in real value terms, you may want to seriously consider whether you want to stay.

Afraid not. They are only obliged to pay you national minimum wage which does normally increase every October. Otherwise you are only entitled to a pay rise if your contract of employment gives you this right or if you have always had a pay rise in the past and you can prove that this is now a right through custom and practise.

Mr Rosenkrantz
UK employers are not obliged to give you any rise at all.

No. I've had to change jobs to get pay rises. They're not obliged to do very much. The best thing to do is become your own boss in a sense (even if you work for someone else), control your own life. Your boss doesn't care about you. You're just there to make him money. If he doesn't pay you enough, go somewhere else.

No they are not

Legally employers have to pay minimum wage .They have no obligation to pay inflated pay rises but ethically they should.

Unless the contract of employment says differently, the employer is not obliged to give any rise at all

Don't think so - what do your Terms and Conditions say (see your contract of employment)...

No T's and C's? No Contract? Union membership? You may well be working for an unscrupulous employer. See the ACAS website for further help. Good luck!
