Are all attorneys dishonest?
|
i worked for a law firm briefly through a temp. agency, and instead of telling me the truth about wanting someone else different, they lied to me, which just confirms how i feel about attorneys. Additional Details real estate guy you idiot. I have a BBA, so don't call me stupid.

That is the perception of the legal profession and it's true to a degree. I am sorry about your experience and I will add that it's most likely the norm and not an isolated incident. Lawyers are the masters of political correctness, so instead of hurting your feelings with the truth, they will sugar coat their responses in order to maintain an air of civility.
The whole profession is not based on black/white, right/wrong, etc. They capitalize off the gray areas. When I was in law school, I was told by a professor, "it's not about the final result, it's all about how you argue to get there." |

Maybe they were trying to spare your feelings? Being an adult requires you to not view the world in black and white. Little lies are told everyday, by everyone, to keep the world a nicer place (need I mention Santa?). Doing so does not make them dishonest so much as courteous. Attorneys are no more honest or dishonest than any other industry. |

I don't think that any certain profession can be categorized but there are certainly stereotypes. Many attorneys are fine honest people and yet there are still many who are much more interested in selling you what benefits them and not what is the truth. I imagine it would be a real challenge to make a career of convining people what you want them to believe, so i guess many attorneys carry that into their personal life. |

Ofcourse not all attorneys are dishonest. You may have just gotten unlucky and worked with some shady ones. I work in an office with over 20 attorneys and they are all great people. |

NO, just like it would be in error to say all people with a BBA are dishonest.
You worked for a temporary agency, that was your boss and was the one you should have gone to regarding your staying at that office. It was not up to the law firm to tell you the "truth about wanting someone else" they were not your employer the temp agency was. The law firm was under no legal requirement to make nice with you because they were not your employer.
The law firm may have used temps while they were looking for a full time employee. The temp agency may have offered the law firm a different person who was highly experienced in working with legal documents. The law firm may have liked you as a person, but was not happy with your work or was not happy with the charges from the temp agency. The temp agency may have offered the law firm a better/different person at a lower cost. You do not know.
It is real easy for people to call attorney's dishonest, but attorneys are one of the few professions that have a book of ethical rules that must be followed or the attorney gets his/her license pulled and is unable to practice the job they have spent money to be trained to perform. The vast majority of attorneys are honest, but as with every profession (even with temp workers) there are a few bad apples. It is offensive to that majority of good, honest attorneys, who help people, when the public calls the entire profession dishonest. Change the word "attorneys" to your ethnic origin and see how the sentence reads -- "are all -------- dishonest?" |
