Talk to your local member of parliament, mayor, reeve (or whatever they call them in your country) to see if there is a summer student position available in their office. Most government offices and city departments hire summer students.

Interning at your statehouse is a good way to go. If you can be a page for the state legislature, it's a fantastic way to make connections and to get on the radar of your political party of choice.

Depends on what you can get and whether you need money. If you can get a job as an intern with an elected official, even if unpaid, that would be great.
