I think it depends on the type of medical treatment. Evidently the Dr. would need to provide for an interpreter if the treatment or diagnosis is serious and requires a lot of communication. I found the article below, and it seems to imply that if the patient asks, the Dr. had better consider it.

Yes. The ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requires medical services to provide an interpreter upon request. (Though you may have to request it a few weeks in advance).

You really should contact the physician's legal service about this. While laws can be vague about the requirements, most cases in which complaints filed have been upheld. You also have to consider state laws, whether the patient's insurance is federally funded, and many other factors. Generally, to cover your ** as they say, if the patients asks, you'd better find an interpreter.
