BORED in job...should I seek another?

BORED in job...should I seek another?

I have been at my current job for about a year now.

Prior to this, I worked as a litigation paralegal/legal assistant, and did many different types of work, plaintiff's, defendant's, med mal, litigation, etc. I was a paralegal for 5-ish years.

Now I work at a legal insurance company, and I am so bored it hurts.

There is very seldom enough work each day to even keep me busy for an hour or two. Time just drags. My old career field was more engaging and interesting to me.

However, I have a good job. Good pay, good benefits, like my boss, etc.

My question is - is it worth it to begin a job search to get back into litigation? Or should I just accept that life isn't always exciting and interesting, and stay where it's comfortable and stable?

For the record, I have no children depending on me. My fiance works, and I would not starve if things didn't work out immediately.

Also, I've only been here for about a year. I don't want to look like a job hopper.

I'm 25.

I would maintain your current job and look for other more fulfilling jobs in the mean time (possibly during work if you can get away with it!). The job market is in bad shape right now, and even if you wouldn't be struggling to get by if you quit, it sounds like you are a fairly independent person and you wouldn't be excited about leaning on another person for a while.

There are many options that you could take advantage of online to search for jobs. Craigslist is a good place to start, and you could branch out from there.

I would suggest taking your time and thoroughly evaluating the possibilities out there; this research will give you time to reflect on your interests and skills, and will help you make a more sound decision.

Best of luck to you!

You should change it is easy to settle! But you are going to start to resent it the more you stay!

I think you should go after a job that will keep you happy for the rest of your life. My mothers friend made a HUGE move when she decided to go from being an accountant for a big firm, getting paid somewhere in the 6 figures, to training to become a doctor. She had a husband that was out of a job, and 3 kids at the time, so why did she do it?

To do something she knows she would love. She's almost a doctor now and doesn't regret it one bit. Go after what makes you happy. She was 30 something when she made made her move, how old are you going to be until you decide to make yours?

who cares if you look like a job hopper, some ppl like diving into new things, theres nothign wrong with that.. but since you're bored.. use your spare time to take classes or find a more exciting job, duh

Joe
personally i would, why stick with a boring career when there are thousands of entertaining jobs that could pay more and be fun for you. You young and seem very sucessful so you should have no problem with any other job

It sounds like you have a lot of positive things going on; talk with your boss and ask for more responsibility. If you continue to feel this way, then certainly start putting out feelers and sending out selective resumes. A lot of times it's easier to find a job when you already have one because you aren't prone to panicking if you don't find a fit soon. Remember the adage about "a bird in hand is better than two in the bush".

Good luck

Stay at your current job, it is comfortable and stable there. These times are not the best to change jobs. Be glad that you have a job!

Boredom is the first sign of someone who is about to start doing a bad job. Ask your boss if there is a chance for advancement. Or something new to conquer in the job, that will excite you. If not do not quit this job until you find a new one. Make sure you would get a good reference also.

Find a new job...........but don't leave until you do........give two weeks............lots of hugs and good byes.........leave with a smile........you will meet these folks down the road.........always do..........

Try talking to your boss to take on new responsibilities. It sounds like you have a good gig and right now with the economy being where it is i wouldnt just walk away from that. Try to get the most out of it instead. Take training, ect.
