I applied for a job in Arizona and I currently live in California. I've already been offered the job after 2 phone interviews and training starts next month. They are currently doing a background check which I am very nervous about. I have a 6 year old domestic violence felony that is on my record and haven't been in trouble since. Will that pop up in the background check? Since it happened in a different state-does it matter? On the application it also asked if I've been convivted of a felony; but if it happened in California then disregard the question. What should I expect from this? They've already offered the job to me also.

ON THE JOB APPLICATION IT ASKED IF I EVER BEEN CONVICTED OF A FELONY. IT ALSO STATED THAT IF THE FELONY WAS IN CALIFORNIA(REMEMBER THAT THIS JOB IS IN ARIZONA) TO DISREGARD THE QUESTION. SO I DIDN'T LIE ON THE APPLICATION BECAUSE THE FELONY WAS IN CALIFORNIA.

Most background checks that employers conduct are at the county level. Usually, they do not pay the money for a national SSN background check. Don't sweat it, man. If they've already offered you the job, they must already know the results. Think positive and be positive. Good Luck. |

I seriously doubt that the application said that.
Murdering someone is a felony....if you got a short sentence do you think an employer shouldn't hold that against someone?
If you embezzled from a company, that's a felony, do you think a company wouldn't be interested in that just b/c it happened in another state?
Yes, it will show up, and they will most likely withdraw the job offer when it comes back, and that may be AFTER you start the job. Job offers are usually 'pending' successful passing of a background check. |

It will show up on the background check, you should have been up front about this from the beginning. They can revoke the job offer if the background check displeases them. |
