Depends entirely on your contract and terms.
If you have no contract then it depends on what your terms and conditions say and if there no t&c's then you are stuffed and the boss can do what they like within reason.t

Unless you're salaried (paid monthly) you only get paid for the actual days you work !

Regardless of when you found our you weren't rostered - if you didn't work those days you won't get paid.

You should have been given a contract within two weeks of starting work and also a booklet which gives you information on holidays and rights on sickness and disciplinary procedures. It may well be that you would have to include christmas day and boxing day as part of your holidays but without this information you cannot know,do ask them about this I do get angry when companies do not do things legally it sounds to me that they are taking advantage of you.

You thought you were working Christmas day?
Depends on how long you have been working there, your "contract you don't have"

In UK bank holidays are a statutory entitlement in addition to your normal holiday allowance. You should be paid for them whether you work them or not. If you work them, you are entitled to a paid day off in lieu even though you were paid for the day you worked.
