Sorry to discourage you, but municipal police really don't make any money. In fact, most make $10. an hour without benefits and that's working part time. So, my experience here in Pennsylvania was disappointing, costly, and a waste of time for me. First, you must attend the MPOTC - Municipal Police Officer Training Course or police academy which costs approx $5000. out of pocket and guarantees you nothing regarding a job. Some departments depending on where you live have different requirements to apply to be a police officer. I was also a Federal Police Officer and an agent which was a little bit better (pay wise), but not much (work wise). Getting into ant Federal, State, Local, or County Police positions are very difficult and not that good once you're in... at least not what I've experienced. I no longer do police work and followed a different career path...
I worked 2 two years part-time and barely made enough money to survive daily. The municipality gave me one uniform and a badge. I had to pay for everything myself, such as, Duty belt, leather gear, weapon, mags, bullets, and a vest!!!! Needless to say, I resigned after I had two teeth that needed porcelin crowns costing me nearly $1800. out of pocket. More importantly, I was fed up with all of the politics and the corruption that was surrounding me. The job itself was great, however, the politics was wicked!!! L@@k before you leap, find out the facts and see the job(s), it's not what you see on tv either. Make certain that's what you want before you go through all of what I did to find out it's not for you. Do your homework thoroughly, then decide. |
