Becoming a registered nurse with felonys?

Hi i am thinking about going to nursing school to get a better job.I am concerned about my record though. When I was 20 yrs old I had a boyfriend that was abusive, he hit me one day and I was tired of getting hit.. so I hit him back. Well the neighbor saw what happened and the police were called. I was later called and told by the Police department that I needed to turn myself in.. so I did.

It went on my record as a felony.. My next situation is that I had a child when I was 16, I applied for help from the government and I collected it for 6 months. Then i got a job also... I never reported that I had the job and I also got in trouble for that... I had to go to court and I think that was a felony also because the amount was over like 1,000 dollars.. I think i collected like 1,500 dollars.. I was young and dumb and now I regret it

Im now in my early 30s and I want to go to nursing school.. I was told that since my incidents happened such a long time ago, and because I haven't had any repeat offenses they would consider letting me apply for my nursing license....
Does anyone know anything about this type of situation? If so I would appreciate your input ... thanks

PS
I would just apply. You will find out pretty quickly if you will be accepted in nurse school.
As far as getting a job when you're out of school, i don't see why not. Nurses are in a union and unions hire convicts all the time.

Go for it start applying for those jobs. Nurses are in high demand right now and what was on your record a long time ago I dont belive it will hurt you. Just make sure you head is on right and keep out of trouble. Good luck and god bless.

The best bet would be to research the certification board requirements for your state. However I can say that my sister also made a dumb mistake when she was 14 (her friends dared her to try shoplifting and she did). Although she wasn't even formally charged with a misdemenor (they took her in to scare the crap out of her....which worked), when she was 26 she had to go before a judge to have her juvenille record expunged before she could get her R.N. Some states will allow for juvenille and/or minor things, but two felonies may hurt your chances. Before you sign up for any classes, investigate this thoroughly and see if an L.P.N is another option.
Good for you for trying to turn your life around.
