Being discriminated against in the work place?

I work for Burger King. I've been working there for almost a year. I am the only girl who works in the back, and I found out the other day that all the guys who work in the back make more than I do, even two new people that were hired last week.
Now I asked my manager why I am payed less, and she told me because people who are hired to close make more.
The thing is, I close for them all the time, once or twice a week I do the same thing that the guys do who make more.
She said because I was not hired specifically to close, I don't make as much, but a lot of the people who close work lunch shift some times.
My question is, Is this right? And is there anything I can do about it?

Yes you can do something about it. Refuse to close until you designation has been changed to closer and your pay has been adjusted accordingly. Otherwise, you can complain to your state dept. and they will take up the issue on your behalf.

be a semi-competant employee until you get compensated for the extra work you've been doing.

don't close

work slow

and if your boss gets mad or asks you to shape up, tell her that as another woman at the workplace, she should help you. if she doesn't, start looking for another job or press charges.

I noticed that you referred to your boss as 'she'.

Have your boss explain your job description in comparison to your male co-workers that get paid more.

Mebbe you've gotten into the habit of helping to close. If doing any closing is NOT part of your job description DON'T do it anymore.

Before you sit down for a face-to-face with your boss. Be looking for another job.

I am a staff nurse working in hospital.that hospital due to organizational changes is to be closed in few days exactly on 31 March. we all staff nurses were told we will be redeployed to other posts within the trust. We received a list of available posts and it was clear that there is not enough permanent post available for permanent staff. we were told we will have to go for interviews fighting for jobs we already being contracted for. There is another aspect of the whole case, there is another hospital for closure but there is no date of closure set yet.In fact we are transfering our patient to that hospital because of us being close very soon. But all staff from that other hospital was included in redeployment process and many of them got permanent alternative post witout even knowing when they are going to go. That decreased our chances of getting a permanent post days before we are closing. we all have famielies have to make arrangements, child care, transport ( we can end up being places in temporary posts even 40 miles away because it is within the trust).BUt my point is that we were discriminated during that whole process of redeployment because we shoudl have been given prority especially that closing dateof my work place was known for some time.do we have any chance to fight it and request fair treat and priority in process of getting our posts?what we shoul do next? please let me know asap because time factor in an issue unhappynurse
