Being fired showing up on a back ground check?

I was supposedly fired for "violation of company policy" for walking off the job. Will this show up on a back ground check being run by my potentially new employer?
Additional Details
Well its only listed as experience on my resume. And the department was let go due to downsizing about a month after. So I should be good based on the current answers.

probably not, background checks use public records based on your name, aliases, address, former addresses, social security number, drivers license/state ID number and birth date.
a reference check will turn this up if you listed this employer on the application or resume' and the employer release this info. many employers only release dates of employment and re-hire status.
legally they can release any TRUTHFUL information bad or good. |

No, i am a training police officer. Only way you will have being fired upon your background check will be if you had a violation with the law inside the business; Such as stealing, vandalism, etc. However, it will not show you were fired. No one has a record of you being fired. Its only your work or when they call your job references. Then they may perhaps find out. But No not on a background check. Well, a background check might include calling up your old bosses or any colleagues (if you gave them their info), so yes, it will show up. |

There is no database that lists why you got fired and it is illegal for your old boss to say anything about it. All they can do is confirm the information that you put on your application. They cannot bad mouth you or volunteer any information. |
