Being hung out to dry at work?

12 years at employer. Relocated 4 times (internationally & domestically) to support business.Always considered an exemplary employee.Start of 06 assumed global sales management role with specific revenue targets but failed on revenue due to internal & external pressures out with my control.Made progress in other areas as recognised by my immediate boss (President) who believes I add great value but CEO (whom I've had a great relationship for years) can't see past the number. As such, have fallen drastically out of favor with CEO. Co. trying to recruit for my role which means my future is uncertain.Presently going thru green card process sponsored by employer. Have not been told directly I'm at risk of being let go (on the contrary, told verbally 6 weeks ago that my job is safe), not given any performance improvement plans or anything but I fear the worst. Not sure what my rights are, or the companies ie. can they fire me without notice? CEO calls the shots hence anything can hapen...

in 12 yrs had there been a big turn over w/ that position? like 3-4-5 before you? should have been a signal...if so.

No job is safe these days. Update your resume

Yes, in most cases you can be terminated at any time, with or without cause. It's called "at will" employment and most employers now have adopted an 'at will" policy. As a sales exec, your job is always at risk based on revenue performance.

The fact that you are in a green card process is even more of a concern for you, I'm sure.

My advice would be to keep doing as you have been - document your performance, document any verbal promises of continued employment, start quietly researching where you are in the green card process and how much longer you'll need to remain with this employer in order to obtain the card, and in the meantime, drive that sales team to achieve the revenue numbers. CEOs have remarkably short memories when numbers start showing an upward trend.

Good luck.

Perfect example of why NOT to be loyal to a COMPANY... They aren't loyal to their employees anymore. Also, taking advantage of employees on a work visa is extremely common.

I think you can be let go at anytime - without reason, unless you are working under a contract. Otherwise all employment here in the states is considered to be 'At Will' Which means you can quit anytime you want - they can also let you go anytime.

If you're here on an H1b, at least the government is becoming more relaxed about that.
