Breaking a Contract with a recruiter?

A few months ago, i was very unhappy at work. I started to pursue other opportunities. I stupidly signed a contract with an employment agency. The man is not very nice and keeps pressuring me to go on interviews that i am not interested in. I can't find my signed copy of my contract. Other than asking him to not contact me, what else can i do to end this?

Sorry this is a bit long...
Ask the agency for a copy of the contract. Let them know that without that information you are unclear about your legal rights and responsibilities, and would be hesitant to engage in an interview.
I would also speak to their business sense - do they really want someone interviewing with a client who is not interested in the job? As a former agency recruiter, I wouldn't want to represent someone who wasn't interested in my opportunity.
Depending on where you signed the contact, what the contract was there to enforce and/or how it addressed your employment status, you may be legally bound in some other way.
I'll close by saying don't burn any bridges - even if you don't think you are interested now. You never know where that recruiter/agency is going to pop up later in life, and they could be your ticket into a job. |

You seem to be in a spot. Was the contract which you signed a general contract or was it a specially drafted contract? If it is a standard printed contract, you can always get a copy from someone else. You can also legally ask the agent to provide you with a copy of your contract.
The agency is at fault if it sends you for interview that does not interest you, provided you did mention your interest clearly in the contract.
I would think that the best thing is to inform the agency in writing that because they are unable to find a suitable job, you do not wish to continue their services. I am not sure if there is any clause in the contract, but it is a common law rule that when the other party does not carry out its obligations properly, you have the right to rescind the contract.
