By law, Do employers have to notify employees if there are hidden cameras in their work area?

I've heard rumors that the managers placed hidden cameras at workstations where i work.

while there may be such a law in some states [google will help you find out in yours], I'm pretty sure that neither AZ nor FL has any such law. The workplace belongs to the employer, not to the employee. Supervisors and managers have a right to observe employees doing their work in these and many other states.

no they do not have to tell you, but they are not allowed to place them where you have a "resonable expectation of privacy", like a locker room or a bathroom.

Susan C
if they told you, they wouldn't be "hidden"...

No, they don't have to notify you. They just can't have them in areas like the bathrooms.

Amanda
No they do not.

Depends on where you are, but generally, as long as the surveillance cameras are placed within legal restrictions (no bathrooms, showers or changing rooms) then employers are not obligated to tell employees, if, where or how many cameras are installed, although many do disclose their monitoring activities in the company handbook or manual just to avoid any potential legal issues.

I would ask the boss why the managers were placing the cameras and see if he knows or not, but i don't think its against the law.

No, they do not.

Hey there,

This is a great question, one I have thought about a lot since I saw that movie Eagle Eye....

I mean, I have started thinking that we have no expectation of privacy anymore, even when we are out in public.

That is kinda scary.

If they told you about them, then they wouldn't be hidden, now would they?

How hidden could they be? They are either black domes or actual cameras. If you looked im sure you could see them
