You can find them by talking to people (try job seekers networking groups, organizations dealing with a specific job type, or even non-professional groups such as book clubs or volunteer opportunities). You can also find these types of jobs by approaching the companies you'd like to work for directly, even if there isn't an opening listed.

Head to your local Unemployment chapter and see if they have job boards that you can view. Go to your local churches and ask priests and minsters if they know anyone who is looking for a clerical worker.
My first question would probably be:
- What are your salary requirements? Keep in mind that in today's economy, people who have more experience are coming down from their previous salary cap in order to just work. So you might be pricing yourself out a bit.
- How flexible are you as far as what kind of opportunities you're looking for? Are you open to Temp? Temp-Perm? Direct Hire? If you only want Direct Hire, you are limiting yourself as to what opportunities might be open for you.
- Have you tried going to the industries that are "recession proof"? Education, Estate Probate, and Health Divisions are usually recession proof because people always want to learn, are always dying, and are always getting sick. I'd say speak to managers at each facility you're applying directly to and ask if you can even work part time. Again, part time hours are better than nothing.
Have you tried retail work? Granted, it's not your field, but $9/hr is better than $0/hr |
