Can I complain about my useless boss, line manager?

My manager joined my team in Oct 07. Ever since he started the job he has been unable to cope. He has no idea what work his team produces and therefore gets easily confused when co workers ask him for stuff. Not only is he rubblish at the job, but he is also a poor manager. He lacks the confidence to talk to his team, unable to remember the names of co workers and generally always wants a member of his team by his side to hold his hand in meetings.
His underperformance is widely known, the team often point out his faults his line manager is aware and also the rest of the company. But nothing has been done. i have been advised my many people in the company to write a formal letter to my manager's manager.
Does anyone have any advise for me?

Never put anything in writing on a subject like this. From the company perspective...whats it got to do with you....it's his boss's job to manage him ...not yours.
If he's making your work suffer then consider switching teams...no-one needs to work for a long time for a bad boss.
Probably the best strategy is to sit and wait....supporting your boss as best you can...this is an opportunity for you to shine and then get his job in a really positive way.
Dont worry ....people not capable of managing always get moved on...it's just a matter of time!

I would go to your Human Resource or Personnel Department. I am sure there is some type of grievance procedure in place. |

before you complain, you need to find out first how your department is doing in general, is that department results and revenue is acceptable to company higher management compared t other depts.
if the answer is negative then place your complain.
if the department is doing well keep your mouth shut and do your best. as there will be no chances to get a listenning ear from management . |

Yes, they are right, if you write a formal complaint to his boss, they have to act on it, better if you got your co.workers to do the same or do yours as a group thing and get all to sign it. Good luck, i have one exactly the same!! |
