Can I get evicted?
Find answers to your legal question.

Can I get evicted?

April 7, 2007 my husband and I moved from New York to Richmond, Virginia due to military orders. We moved into our new apartment complex community that is run by a management company. Coming from New York where everything is either private landlord, co-op, or real estate these style apartment communities were a bit of a shock. Two weeks after moving in, I was offered a job as a leasing consultant for the management of my community. As time went by, I am not comfortable working where I live nor am I satisfied with my job. However, I remember signing some sort of paper in the beginning, not remembering exactly what it was, but I think it said if I were to quit I would have to move due to obtained private information of other residesnts. How do I go about finding more about this with my employer without it looking like I am trying to leave?

Just say "I'd like a copy of the papers in my personal file to keep for my records." Nothing shady there. They won't suspect anything. I doubt you could get evicted.

Ask for a copy of the stuff in your employee file. It is a legal right, and if they ask why, just say you need it for your records.

Couple of things, here. I'm not an attorney, and I'm not familiar with the tenant/landlord agreements in your state..(just up front)...so I really can't know what your agreements bind you to.... But if it were me, first, I would tell my employer that I'd like copies of my lease and any and all agreements for my files because I am updating all of my personal files at home, insurance docs, warranties, licenses, etc. and want to make sure all of my paperwork is organized. Then I would take the packet to a good landlord/tenant rights attorney who offers a free 1st time consultation and ask them to review the documents with me. I do know, just generally, that if the agreement violates any local ordinance or laws, it is automatically void and nonbinding, because, of course, you can't agree to do something illegal. Maybe, rights of tenancy can not be altered by agreement. Let's hope so. On the other hand, if all or part of your compensation is your dwelling, then maybe they can require you to move...An attorney can tell you, though. In any case, good luck...

Ask them for a copy of all the documents you signed at the time of employment that are in your file. You don't have to tell them WHY you want them.

Get the tenant contract then go from there to see if there any legal retaliation. This is where you going to get your true answer from.

All of this information is included in your lease agreement.

If you are still working there you will have access to the agreements.

Get a copy of everything you signed and all contracts between you and your employer by just asking for it. They are required to give you copies
