Can I get fired if my daughter inlaw goes into labor and I leave work?

Yeah, I am pretty sure you can.
I'm not sure if there is even a law to protect people from being fired when immediate family has a serious/life threatening medical problem. But a daughter in law going into labor is neither immediate relative really or actual emergency so I can't imagine there is anything to prevent them from firing you.

Try talking to them beforehand and try to work it out- maybe work on extra stuff before she's due or plan on some way to make up work/hours afterwards.

Unless you have a contract, your employer can fire you for any reason, actually they do not even need a reason. You should talk to your employer about this --before you need to leave-- and explain the situation. Most employers are really good about letting you leave early for reasons like this

Yes it is a possibility.I suggest you let your employer now that your Daughter in law is expecting any day now and when you get the call you will need to leave to be with her.Be upfront and honest with them.Congrats Grandma!

If California is a right to work state, you or your employer can terminate employment at any time for no reason. If not, there may be other issues. Also, some unions may have specific clauses.

I would let my employer know ahead of time what is going on, and ask for permission to take off when the time happens. If your boss thinks it is his or her idea to grant permission, it will be easier on everyone.

well yes you can, but most employers would not, speak to your employer or supervisor and let them know what you plan to do

Just tell your boss your sick (pull them to the side and tell them you have the runs real bad and you made a mess in your pants and you need to go home. you might have food poisoning. )

if you work in this country you can be fired for anything ronald regan killed the unions ,and george bush is continually chipping away at the res of our rights if mc cain gets in office he will take whats left ..if you really need your job stay at work.
