I'm 19 and i just got a ticket last week for shoplifting. Is this going to ruin my career? If so, is there any point of me continuing college? Ever since this happened and i've been researching it I've been hearing all these stories about not being able to get a job. so now i have no motivation to study. Please tell me these horror stories aren't true.

One problem is that there are not tons of nutritionist jobs, so you will have competition. If it came down to you and someone with no record, they would probably pick the other person. But, they may not even consider you at all if they do a background check and do not wish to hire someone with a record. They do not have to tell you this.
It really depends on several things. First, can you work in a healthcare environment in your state with a theft on your record? You need to find that out first. If you are permitted to, that does not mean an employer will hire you. If the law allows them to, they can still choose to avoid candidates with records.
I tell you all this because it is rough out there. I have a BA, honors, no record at all and cannot find a job anywhere. My brother has a record and he has been turned down for multiple jobs.
You need to do research to see if you are legally allowed to work in this field and then you need to see if you would have a chance of being hired. Stay in school for now, but try to find out this information as soon as possible. Call your state first and see if you can get some info. Then call the places where you would work and ask for someone in their HR departments. I know around here, all healthcare places do background checks. I am not sure what they will "accept" as far as specific charges.
