Can I take legal action against employer if im terminated for not offering my services outside of job descript?

Ok I have not been terminated as of now but there is a giant crossroad coming that I cant avoid. Basically, I am an IT person who also has a background in multimedia. I obviously made a mistake of offering to assist someone with some multimedia stuff and since then I have been getting hit with a lot of it because there isn't anyone else who can do it. After a while I asked for a pay increase if they want to keep putting everything multimedia in my face. They declined and just said keep doing it. I recently did some big digitizing project for this company and now they want me to train other people on these things. I dont want to be apart of this anymore. Now there is a big meeting coming up about all this multimedia and what they want and blah blah. I am going to professionally state that I am no longer willing to offer my services on this. It is completely sideways from my job and I spend a lot of my own time doing it. If im fired over this is there anything I can do about it or am I SOL?

do you have a contract that list specific duties?
if not then you can do as asked or accept the consequences.............

an open, honest discussion about your concerns can go a long way to resolving this before it becomes an issue.
communication is a great tool..............when used!

In almost every situation, yes. You do what your employer asks. If your job has become this special area that only you know, why would you not be happy to do it?!?!?!

If you want to be succesful, you do the things that your employer values. If you find that you have skills that are in demand or unique, then show that off.

It will pay off eventually.

No, you can be fired if you refuse to do the work they assign you, even if it's not what you were hired for, and you can't do anything about it. But what's the deal with spending a lot of your own time doing this work? Unless you are properly classified as exempt, very possible for an IT professional, they'd be required to pay you for the time worked.

If you are exempt, but this is causing you to spend a lot of extra work time to do it, have you talked to your boss about it? He or she might not realize that. Rather than just saying you aren't willing to do the work, it would be a lot wiser to ask if something else can be taken off your plate since you are regularly working more hours than others in your area (if you are).

just go to the meeting and pretend you dont know anything about that side of the house. let em know you work in IT and you have no idea why they are asking you about multimedia.

My boss told me to do something inethical and I already had PTSD. I disclosed in writing that I had PTSD...the next day got terminated and they are trying to say that I broke company policy 7 days prior just to try to cover their tracks.
