Can a company do this concerning a job?

I was at a job a while back where I was let go, and on the record, it states that I can't be rehired. There is a job that I am seeking with another company. I just found out that this company is going to be bought out by my old company in the next couple of months. If I accept the job with the new company, can they legally let me go once the other company takes over, because of my record?

The new company, since they step in the place of the old, gets employee records and ability to hire and fire at will. They can probably let you go.
The question is: will they learn of the old record? Firms often lose track of such data, even in this digital age.
My rec: say nothing and fly below the radar until they take action, if ever.

As long as you are an at-will employee they could let you go. Since the company already had cause to fire you once they will not be required to keep you on a second time. If you are sure this takeover will occur it may be best to look elsewhere for work. |

Yes they can let you go (even if you have a contract) |

The new company will probably use their rules NOT the old companies so check those out.
If you get the job before that change of ownership and are a good employee they probably will not let you go.
Plus many time these buy outs fall through. Go get the job. |
