Can a foreign university (law school) graduate work in the usa as a lawyer?

I have a greek university degree, I have almost completed my 18 months of working in a law firm (in Greece) and I'm going to take the bar exam in a couple of weeks. What would I need to do, if I wanted to work in the USA?

You need to contact the legal bar in the state you are interested in working. Each state bar has their own exam and standards. I doubt they would let you sit for the exam unless you can show significant coursework in the US legal system.

You will probably have to get an advanced degree called an Ll.M. (legus magerster) from a US law school. Its a one year 30 credit legal degree. You will be qualified to sit for the Bar Exam.
Also if you have a science or engineering degree you may sit for the US Patent Bar Exam.

below is the website if you want to take the NY Bar exam. you will need to have your transcripts evaluated etc. The site has info for foreign attorneys planning to take the NY Bar.

There are several groups that you need to check with. First, check with the US State Department. Second, check with the US Supreme Court. Third, check with the American Bar Association. Here are the reasons: The state department, if you are NOT an American citizen, or Naturalized US Citizen is the first place you will have to check. They have the rules and regs on the subject. The Supreme Court has the details regarding federal legal bodies and what it would take to 'hook up' with them, again, IF you are seeking to come into the country.
The American Bar Association would have information as to possible sponsorship programs available for foreign nationals who want to come to the US and practice law, including residency requirements and what bar test you would have to take as a visiting attorney. They 'may' even have suggestions for 'sponsor' business/agencies who may 'carry you' for the short term, until you can get your legal 'sea legs'. TTFN
