I don't think felons are a protected class, so no, it would not be illegal to refuse employment to someone on that basis, even if there was no bona fide job requirement for a non-felon.
Big companies seem to have personnel policies that do not exclude felons outright. But if such a person was hired, it would likely not be into a position of trust, at least not initially.
A white collar felon (say, someone who illegally back-timestamped stock trades, benefitting both the client and company) might be an exception. |

It depends on the business...
If you have a felony for embezzlement and you interviewed for a job at a financial institution they can say that. Its up to the business to determine. |

I'm not sure...It really depends on the job and/or job industry. For some jobs you need a 100% clean record, personally I would do some research on CareerCritique to learn more.
