Yes. They call it a "Judgement notwithstanding the verdict." If the judge feels the evidence clearly didn't support the jury's decision, he or she may so rule, but it's very rare.

Gin is correct. If the judge decides after the jury has read the verdict and the losing side attorney request's the judge to override the verdict, the judge does have the right to overturn the jury's verdict.
