YES you can be employed at a grocery store at 14

the stocker position depends on what they have you doing
under 16 you can not go into a walk-in freezer or work with pallets
and you can not use certain mechanized equipment.

usually those under 16 are used at the front of the business dealing with customer service type jobs. the grocery store knows which jobs you can and can't do.

for information about the hours you are allowed to work, how many and what days as well as the jobs you are allowed to do and work permits go to:
http://www.youthrules.dol.gov
US Department of Labor
YouthRules!

the pay will minimum wage or a little above
without knowing where you are that amount can not be determined, as some states have a wage higher then the federal which is currently $6.55 hour.
(there is a sub-minimum wage for minors for their first 90 days but many employers do not use that wage).

You can be a stocker at the store no matter what your gender is. Be sure to tell them that that is the position you would like to apply and be hired for. It will also be your responsibility to unload trucks when they come in, unless they have specifically hired someone for that job. In which case, there may be some heavy lifting. However, I'm not sure you're allowed to work as you're only 14 but every state is different. You will probably start out at minimum wage, which is $7.00 (?) http://www.com.state.oh.us/laws/pub/MinimumWage.pdf

Sure you can but I doubt they'll hire you until the age of 16. There are child labor laws the store is required to follow. See http://www.dol.gov for more information. The wage they pay can not be less than the current minimum wage.

I used to work in a grocery store years ago in the checkout lane. Sometimes I had to sack groceries and occassionally I did some stocking too. The heaviest things you'll be picking up are cases of canned goods (15 - 20lbs), bags of charcoal, large bagged pet supplies (25 - 50lbs), and the bags of water purification salts (most are 40 lbs each). If they stick you on sacking duty...full bags of groceries can weigh as much as 30 pounds.
To do the heavy lifting I recommend you get yourself a back lifting belt to protect your back if the store doesn't provide one for you (they should tho).

First of all, you need to be 16 years old.

But as far as you being a girl: Go for it! Yes, there will be heavy lifting. - lift weights - get ready for it.

Good luck.

Chances are nope.
Most companies are required to carry insurance that pays in case or injury to employees. Most insurance companies require that said employees be at least 16 to be on the policy.
