Can actions (legal or other) be taken against a company for re-tracting a job offer after it is accepted?

Live in AZ, and all verbal discussions and agreements for job offer, acceptance, and pay. Can I even go to their HR dept for this act of unprofessionalism?

You can go to HR and you can go to a lawyer because you might have a case. Only a lawyer can determine that, though.

Unless you had a signed contract for employment, you have no recourse. If you set it up through the HR department, and not your actual job supervisor, the job may have been filled or rescinded before the HR department was aware that the job was no longer available. Thus, no job to offer, no job to give, and no Court that I am aware of will support your suit.

May be legal but not very nice. Same thing happened to a friend of mine. HR offered him one salery and when the CEO found out the retracted the offer and the job.

The Human Resources department isn't there for you, it's there for the company. You have no reason to contact them because you are not an employee.

Yes, it is perfectly legal on verbal offers of employment for them to retract a job offer. I have a feeling that either your background check, references, or drug-screen came back bad OR it could be as simple as they changed their mind about filling the position at all.

However, SOME STATES gives you legal recourse if an offer was made in writing, and you quit your job and then was left with no job, but these situations are very rare and would not apply in your case.

Arizona? verbal? You can see a lawyer but I doubt it.
